An eclipse is an astronomical event occurring when one celestial object, such as a moon or planet, moves into the shadow of another, causing a temporary obscuration. The two primary types viewed from Earth are solar eclipses (Moon blocks Sun) and lunar eclipses (Earth blocks sunlight to the Moon). They happen 4–7 times a year during designated "eclipse seasons".
